Kiland owns ~18,600 hectares of prime agricultural land on Kangaroo Island which it is remediating from forestry to sheep farming following the 2019-20 bushfires. The company has moved to convert its 4.5 million tonnes of fire-damaged timber into ~900,000 tonnes of biochar which could potentially produce 1.8 million Carbon Removal Certificates (CRC). Kiland anticipates the carbon removal project to be the world’s largest biochar project and expects to realise in excess of $55 per CRC (based on recent and comparable CRC sales). As at 30 June 2022, the company had $48.3 million in net cash and in November 2022, announced on-market and off-market buy backs of 5.62 million and 4.56 million shares respectively.
