Melbourne-based games developer PlaySide Studios has released a trailer for its upcoming PC title Age of Darkness: Final Stand, with players soon able to access the real-time strategy game.
Melbourne-based games developer PlaySide Studios has released a trailer for its upcoming PC title Age of Darkness: Final Stand, with players soon able to access the real-time strategy game.
The new game lets players take control of a small kingdom as it tries to defend itself from hordes of marauding enemies known as Nightmares – with more than 70,000 enemy units able to be rendered simultaneously using PlaySide’s own SwarmTech technology.
Players will also be forced to contend with a unique timing mechanic in which daytime can be used to reinforce their settlement before night falls and the onslaught begins.
The game marks PlaySide Studios’ first big step into the world of PC gaming – something CEO Gerry Sakkas said has always been a goal for the company best known for its extensive suite of mobile games.
“Age of Darkness: Final Stand heralds PlaySide’s expansion into the hardcore PC platform. As a studio created to develop AAA titles, the vision has always been to develop larger, more hardcore titles on PC and Console,” Mr Sakkas said.
“Age of Darkness: Final Stand is a testament to the grit, adaptability and talent of our artists, engineers and game designers.”
Age of Darkness hits Steam early access
Although the game is not yet finished, players will have the opportunity to try it out through digital game distributor Steam’s Early Access Platform.
Early Access allows developers to release games to the public while the finishing touches are still being applied – allowing PlaySide Studios to work with players to shape the game’s development.
“We’re extremely excited and anxious to meet our first wave of players on Steam and to finish building Age of Darkness: Final Stand together with the community,” Mr Sakkas said.
The company noted working with players to ensure PlaySide titles offer a unique and challenging experience has always been one of the company’s passions.
